Sew and Crochet on INSET DAY

Sew and Crochet on INSET DAY

On Monday 5th January 2026, I teamed up with Theodora Burrow (knit and crochet designer) to run our first ever collaboration at the One of Six cabin. Combining my background in sewing, and Theo's in crochet, we were able to give the children the opportunity to experience both crafts in one day.

Our planning for the day centred around what would be achievable for the children in the time that they had, to create simple projects that would give a sense of satisfaction and pride without being too demanding on skills. The children were separated into two groups and spent half of the day sewing and half of the day crocheting.

For the sewing section of the day the children were given a blank, canvas tote bag, that they could upcycle using a range of haberdashery and fabrics on offer. They also had the chance to use the sewing machines to add on ribbons or larger pieces of fabrics - this was a hit with all of them!

In the crochet section the children learnt how to create friendship bracelets, little flowers and even granny squares. We were amazed by how many of the children came with skills already and could build on these during the session.

The whole day was wonderful and we saw some brilliant creativity and finished projects.  The children left happy and feeling proud of their efforts, with new friendships made. We're really looking forward to running more of these days during school holidays and INSET days. Please add your email below to be the first to hear about them.
