One of Six
Welcome to One of Six: sustainable sewing and creative workshops for all ages in Walthamstow, E17.
Who runs One of Six and what is it all about?
I'm Carly, a qualified Primary teacher and SENDCo with over 20 years of experience working with children across London. I taught myself to sew over 5 years ago - it became an obsession and then more than a hobby, growing gradually into a business.
I have a love of vintage textiles and design, and a passion for sustainability and reducing the environmental impact we have through our buying choices. In my making, all of the fabrics are vintage, secondhand or reclaimed. I am passionate about supporting local textile waste initiatives like Forest Recycling Project, Yodomo and Reneé materials who work tirelessly to save tonnes of waste from landfill each year. I can often be found rummaging in charity shops or scrap stores, searching for discarded materials and thinking of creative ways to reuse unwanted items.
Since starting in September 2024, One of Six has been selling one of a kind items of clothing and accessories, all created using vintage, secondhand and reclaimed fabrics. From November 2025, One of Six will be offering sewing workshops from a new studio space in Walthamstow.
I have two of my own children (age 9 and 7) so know how busy school life is and the academic demands that are placed on our young people. Having space to be free and express our creativity is so important. I'm so excited to get back to teaching something I love and try to inspire others to take up a craft through running One of Six workshops.

Me and my two daughters, Ruby and Sylvie. This was my first ever market with Go East Vintage in September 2024.
Where is One of Six based?
We are based in a brand new creative space in Walthamstow, E17, located just a 3 minute walk from Walthamstow Central. The space is a stand-alone cabin that is part of 12 new spaces delivered by the 'Thames-side Studios' group, bringing together a range of local, creative businesses.
The cabin is a multi-purpose space; part sewing studio and part workshop space for running classes.
The studio has it's own toilet and sink facilities and will be fully stocked with fabric and haberdashery. All resources will be sustainably sourced secondhand or from textile waste initiatives.
