Open to all parents of pre-crawling babies, join me for 4 weeks of beginner's sewing lessons in a calm and welcoming space. We'll work together to create 3 individual projects (one for you and two for your baby), all made from vintage and reclaimed fabrics available at the studio. There's a dedicated space for your babies to kick around and relax, but we will stop and start according to the needs of everyone in the group. In these relaxed sessions, you'll not only learn a new skill but have time to chat and form connections with other local mums at a similar phase of parenting to you.

When are the sessions?

Choose either Monday 2 - 4pm or Tuesday 10 - 12pm or 2-4pm.

Week 1: 13th/14th April

Week 2: 20th/21st April

Week 3: 27th/28th April

Week 4: 11th/12th May

What will you learn?

Week 1: Get to grips with the sewing machine and learn how to make a little lined pouch.

Week 2: Learn how to make a simple pair of baby trousers or shorts. Choose from two designs.

Week 3 & 4: Over two sessions will we make a baby romper.

You will be taught all of the basic skills needed to use a sewing machine to construct an item from pattern pieces. Learning about cutting fabrics, pattern markings, finishing seams and following the instructions of a sewing pattern. You'll take home your finished pieces and a PDF sewing pattern for both the trousers and romper.

What will the sessions be like?

The sessions will be very relaxed and paced according to you and your babies. We will go slowly and work around what’s needed in the moment - there will be lots of stops for feeds, changes and cuddles. We’ll all work together to make each other feel at ease and just enjoy some time to be creative and learn new skills.

There’s a dedicated space for the babies to lie with activity gyms and a bouncy chair.

And unlimited tea and coffee!

You will have access to a wide range of vintage and reclaimed fabrics, all perfect for making baby clothes. All tools and equipment will be provided and you will take home full instructions of what you've made each week .

Where will the sessions take place?

A the One of Six cabin in Walthamstow Central. This is a studio space equipped with sewing machines, fabric and haberdashery. There is a toilet, sink and tea and coffee making facilities. The cabin does not have step-free access so if you'd like to bring a buggy it would need to be carried up a flight of stairs and some small steps leading to the cabin. Slings would be preferred but there is room for buggies if needed.

Do I need any prior experience?

No! We'll go through all the basics and get you sewing on a machine in the first session.

Who will teach the sessions?

The sessions will be taught by Carly, a qualified teacher and SENDCo and self-taught sewist. Carly is also a local mum and has two of her own children, aged 9 and 7.
